A Charming Cultural Wedding: Cherell and Frank’s Celebration

This wedding is a fascinating tale of deep affection intertwined with a rich cultural tapestry. When Congo Meets Nigeria

The day kicked off with a traditional Kalabari engagement where the families carried out a ceremony known as ‘bibife’. For those unfamiliar with this tradition, ‘bibife’ is a symbolic act where the bride’s family offers food to the groom. This is done to ‘buy’ his mouth, a gesture that signifies he can’t eat another woman’s food without the bride’s permission, and a pledge of his forever loyalty to the marriage.

The act is filled with laughter and good-natured teasing as the groom ‘sells’ his mouth in return for the honor of having Cherell as his wife. The joy and amusement this custom brought added a distinctive flavor to the day’s events, beautifully blending the couple’s cultures.

This was but one of the many ways the day was imbued with meaning that brought two families, two individuals, and two cultures together in harmony.

A buzz was in the room from the energetic Congolese dancing all around us – everyone was having the time of their life. The fun of this wedding was exactly what made me anticipate it for months before! The wonderful day was finally here, and even though I was working, I had a blast too. These two families know how to make anyone feel loved and welcome.

Cherell and Frank took center stage with not one, not two, but three outfit changes! Each ensemble was more stunning than the last, reflecting the vibrant Congolese fashion that is rich in color and texture.

A Congolese-Kalabari White Wedding Experience

Just as the traditional rites held their charm, Cherell and Frank’s white wedding was yet another mesmerizing affair. The day was imbued with a blend of modern elegance and uniqueness. Cherell, in her stunning white gown from David’s Bridal UK, looked nothing short of a princess – her hair, exquisitely styled by Platinum Tresses Bridal, added elegance to her radiant look. While Frank, in his dashing suit, beamed as he awaited his bride at the altar.

The ceremony began; Cherell and Frank stood hand in hand, ready to make their vows. As they faced each other, the love in their eyes was unmistakable. Frank began, his voice steady and filled with emotion. 

Cherell responded, her words spoken with heartfelt sincerity. Every word and promise reinforced the depth of their commitment to each other. Their vows were not just a proclamation of their present love but a promise of shared dreams in the face of whatever the future might bring. 

Despite the grandeur of the event, the genuine love and affection between the couple remained the star of the show. As they exchanged their vows there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. The celebration truly was a testament to their love story, weaving together two hearts in an unforgettable display of unity.

After the white wedding ceremony, Cherell and Frank transitioned effortlessly into their portrait session, exhibiting an ease and comfort that was truly heartwarming. The event space – artfully crafted by The Chigwell Marquees and Extreme Wedding Events, transformed into a vibrant social hub, resonating with the rhythm of traditional music.
